Professional Mentoring for Women in Science and Technology

Program Goal:  

 

 

 

 

 

 

To provide sixteen women from the Middle East and North Africa, in the professional fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics with an eight week fellowship at the University of Michigan-Dearborn (UM-Dearborn). This program will enhance their technical skills and familiarize them with operations at a research university and U.S. industry. The long-term goal is to establish a sustainable network of relationships not only between the women and their American mentors, but also among the participants.
Applicants: 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

To be eligible to participate in this program, you must be:

  • Between the age of 22 and 35
  • Fluent in English
  • From one of the following eligible countries: Algeria, Bahrain, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Morocco, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, United Arab Emirates, West Bank/Gaza, and Yemen
  • A college graduate (bachelor’s degree minimum) with a background and interest in one of the following research focus areas:

Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE)

  • Machine Learning/Intelligent Systems
  • Power and Vehicle Electronics
  • Reconfigurable Computing and Computer Architectures
  • Alternative Energy/Energy Management (with ME)
  • Security Systems (with CIS)
  • Sensor Network Platforms

Mechanical Engineering (ME)

  • Automotive Engineering
  • Materials Processing and Manufacturing
  • Energy
  • Hybrid vehicles, renewable energy
  • Bio/nano: bio-thermal, bio-materials, nano-materials,  bio-nano process

 

Expenses Paid:
UM-Dearborn will pay for participant travel, room and board and local transportation
Location:

Dearborn, Michigan (living arrangements include the choice of a hotel or host family)

UM-Dearborn campus – technical education, research projects, university operations
Local industry – technical education, research projects, company operations

Dearborn community – networking with local business leaders, exposure to cultural events
